DANCE & MOVEMENT THERAPY

Children from Buikwe a place far from town and exposure, dancing with joy, their face filled with happiness and defying the stereotype that dance is only for the failures. Live The Dream Foundation uses the transformative power of dance to bring hope and opportunity to the children of Buikwe, and communicate complex social issues, fostering community engagement and inspiring action.

One participant is quoted saying:

“Live The Dream Foundation is my happy place because i dance with hope of becoming something big in the future”

About this program

Dance and Movement Therapy (DMT) is a creative, body-centered approach to healing and personal growth. It uses movement to help individuals express emotions, reduce stress, build confidence, and foster resilience. Focused on self-expression rather than performance, DMT promotes emotional, mental, and physical well-being, offering a safe space for healing and transformation.

Dance plays a powerful role in social transformation, fostering emotional expression, cultural exchange, and social advocacy. At Live The Dream Foundation, we integrate dance into our programs as a tool for identity formation, emotional healing, and community building. Dance has proven to drive social development and holistic growth, offering children an outlet to thrive and connect with others.

“I’ve witnessed children who were once shy and emotionally down blossom into confident individuals, gaining opportunities to grow both locally and internationally through dance,” says Joseph, Founder.

Our program offers a wide range of creative expressions, including Afrobeats, Hiphop, traditional African dance, music, and visual arts. We strive to shape a supportive environment where children, regardless of their background, can discover and nurture their authentic selves through the power of somatic liberation .

In a community with limited access to dance education, Live The Dream Foundation has become a prominent and essential program for the children and teens of Buikwe. Since it’s opening in December 2024, 40 children have enrolled in the community center. Live The Dream Foundation not only provides a place for connection, fun, and play, but also a place for both physical and emotional safety.

We look forward to reaching more youth in Buikwe, and across all of Uganda to provide our services in schools and community
